Joe served as the program engineer from the Alaska Way Viaduct Replacement, which included design and construction of the SR 99 Tunnel. Joe will recap the completion of the tunnel and give an overview of the instrumentation and monitoring that were utilized for the project.
Joe has over 28 years of design, construction and management experience encompassing heavy civil and underground works including tunnels, deep excavations, underground space and large pipelines. Joe has a degree from the University of Washington. He has detailed knowledge and experience working on tunneling systems, tunnel boring machines, instrumentation monitoring and managing large diverse project teams. He has worked throughout North America on a variety of challenging projects encompassing transportation, deep sewer systems, pump stations, water and wastewater systems. He served as the deputy construction manager for the Denny Way CSO Program, project engineer and project manager for the Brightwater conveyance system, program engineer for Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement, subject matter expert for Changi Airport Interterminal tunnels, and is currently providing expert review for the planned $16 billion Gateway Program and the Hudson River Tunnels in the northeast.
